ACT in trouble again, this time over anti-terror legislation
The Federal Government today has once again expressed its enthusiasm for tidying up pieces of territory law that it doesn’t like. In the 90s, Northern Territory laws legalizing euthanasia were overturned by the Coalition Government. And in recent times, the ACT has received Federal attention because of its legislation enabling same-sex mariage. And today, Federal Attorney General Philip Ruddock has said that anti-terrorism legislation that will come into force in the ACT in November is not tough enough – because it prohibits the indefinite detention of minors. The Public Interest Advocacy Network’s chief executive officer Robin Banks explained why her centre supports the ACT’s stance.
