ACMA dumps Oz music quotas

AMRAP – the Australian Music Radio Airplay Project – have just launched a satirical on-line radio station called MIDNIGHT GAGA RADIO. The station plays a mash-up of Midnight Oil’s 1980s commercial radio hit Beds are Burning, with Lady Gaga’s song ‘Poker Face’ – performed live by AMRAP staff on an ’80s Casio keyboard. They’re hoping to highlight the Australian Communications Media Authority’s decision to remove Australian music quotas on commercial radio, so they can experiment with programming. But will we end up with more diverse radio, or more Lady Gaga?
