Petrol sniffing remains a scourge in many remote aboriginal communities in Central Australia. Last year the Federal Government said making non-sniffable petrol available right across central Australia would be too costly. But a report released today by independent research group Access Economic says that the Federal state and territory governments would save $25.1 million each year if they rolled out Opal petrol right across the region, as well as save seven lives a year. This report has comments from Lynn Pezzullo of Access economics, Tristan Ray from the Central Aboriginal Youth Link Up Service, and Vicki Gillick co-ordinator of the Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Women’s Council.
