Abu Ghraib jail break frees Al-Qaeda fighters

While the international media’s attention was focused on the birth of the royal baby, up to a 1000 prisoners many of them jihadists broke out of Abu Ghraib and Taji jails in Iraq. On Tuesday, Al-Qaeda affilated group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant claimed responsibility for the break out. The escapees include several senior Al-Qaeda leaders.
The attacks lasted for about 10 hours on Sunday night. Suicide bombers used car bombs to blast their way into the jails, while other militants attacked guards with mortars and rocket-propelled grenades.The Associated Press estimates up to 550 people has been killed in Iraq in this month alone.
