Aboriginal voices needed in out of home care system

Last week, the NT Children’s Commissioner reported that over 16 years, two foster carers subjected 12 Aboriginal children in their care to repeated sexual and physical abuse.

One of the many troubling aspects of this report was the racial abuse of these children.

Now, peak bodies are calling for governments to involve Aboriginal-controlled community organisations in protecting vulnerable children while maintaining important connections to family and culture.
