Hunters are thought to decrease animal populations, but a hunting technique used by an Aboriginal group in Western Australia has been shown to increase the population of a certain animal. The Martu people, who live in the Western Desert of Australia, use fire to burn vegetation and locate the burrows of sand goannas.
