Indigenous people could have their right of appeal to proposed mining sites in sacred areas stripped away as the South Australian Government looks to change Aboriginal Heritage Act.

A few weeks ago on The Wire we reported that the South Australian government was pushing through legislation that would allow mining companies to get on with mining without having to negotiate with local native title holders. Now in its eagerness to encourage mining, the Government has announced that Aboriginal heritage legislation needs ‘freshening up’ – and not to the advantage of indigenous people.
