Aboriginal deaths in custody, remembering John Pat

This week marks 30 years since the death in police custody of Aboriginal teenager John Pat. The event was instrumental in bringing about the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody in 1987. One of the key findings of the Commission was that imprisonment should be a punishment of last resort. But decades later, justice advocates say they are seeing increasing numbers of Aboriginal people dying in custody.
