Since the shock axing of ABC managing Director Michelle Guthrie by the ABC board on Monday, the story has continued to twist and turn. After leaked emails showing he had tried to influence Guthrie to sack senior journalists who were out of favour with the government, Board chairman Justin Milne has now offered his resignation. The events of the week have highlighted the need to preserve the  independence of the ABC.
