A win for Indigenous education
Claims by Labor MP Warren Snowdon, that 5000 children in the Northern Territory do not have access to mainstream secondary schooling, have put the issue of Indigenous Education back on the national agenda… And with the Federal election expected before the end of the year, both major parties agree that the problems surrounding Indigenous education need looking at. But in the suburbs of Greater Western Sydney, one Primary school is already achieving greatly improved literacy among its Indigenous students. And now the achievements of that school, Holy Family Primary at Emerton, have been recognised by the Australian Government and Teaching Australia, at the 2007 National Awards for Quality Schooling.
