Orthopaedic surgeon Munjed Al Muderis has lived a turbulent life.
He grew up in Iraq and fled for his safety from Saddam Hussein’s brutal regime only to find himself within the harsh Australian asylum system.
Once finally free, Munjed became a leader in osseointegration, the process of implanting titanium rods into the human skeleton and attaching robotic limbs, and he now returns to Iraq to use this expertise to help amputees wounded by the fighting in that country.
The story of his experience is told in his latest book, Going Home.
