On average, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders live between twelve and seventeen years less than the rest of the population. As part of the effort to “close the gap”, successive governments have enacted a number of policies and projects to further Aboriginal health. From anti-Tobacco programs to nutritional classes. But according to health experts, the government’s attempts to rationalize Aboriginal Affair’s programs and cut hundreds of millions of dollars from the sector, threatens what progress has been made.
