A new idea for Indigenous recognition was launched today. Damien Freeman and Julian Leeser’s ‘The Australian Declaration of Recognition’ proposes an Australian equivalent to the United States Declaration of Independence. Constitutional recognition has bi-partisan support in Australia, but the authors of the declaration are pushing for Australia to take a new direction.
