Students from the University of Adelaide today staged a wedding of convenience, protesting against the poverty-stricken plight of university students. The mock wedding is part of a national campaign urging the Government to reduce the age of independence, in the eyes of Centrelink, from 25 to 22 years and to change the eligibility criteria for Youth Allowance. While the Government’s $950 stimulus package will help to ease the pain, the National Union of Students is seeking a long-term solution.
