State environment ministers met in Melbourne today to discuss the Murray’s woes. One of the reports before them was by independent Murray Darling Basin commissioner John Scanlon. He wrote a month ago that the river was in serious trouble and the Living Murray Initiative was looking fairly ineffective. After today’s meeting he is much more optimistic saying that lots more federal money and a newly pro-active attitude to projects means that the river’s future is looking a lot more rosy.
