A close look at the smaller parties: The Stable Population Party
Only four Australian political parties regularly make the news, but there are more than thirty political parties registered with the Australian Federal Electoral Commission. Over the next few weeks The Wire will look at some of the smaller political parties and their policy ideas. First up is the Stable Population Party – a party with the goal of limiting Australia’s population growth to 26 million by 2050.
The party claims that a rapidly rising population will increase the cost of living, and put serious pressure on both food and water security. But is a stable population preferable, and will the policies of the Stable Population Party achieve it?
