The whole of Australia has waited nervously this week to see whether car giant Mitsubishi still wants to manufacture in Australia. And nowhere was the wait more nervous than in South Australia where three and a half thousand people work for Mitsubishi and a further twenty thousand have flow-on jobs. The result – only seven hundred workers to go – for now. Professor Sue Richards from the National Institute of Labor Studies played down the loss saying the Australian car industry generally is in quite a strong position.
