8 billion in reconstruction funds goes missing
Over 8 billion dollars have just gone missing. . .that’s the news coming out of an audit of funds set aside by America for reconstruction in Iraq. The audit, released by the Special Inspector General for Iraqi Reconstruction, found that corruption flourished under the Coalition Provisional Authority, the US body that administered Iraq prior to the formation of the interim government. As the head of the State Department Intelligence Team on Iraq from 2003 to 2004, Wayne White was responsible for evaluating intelligence coming in from public and private sources. He told The Wire why he was shocked by information revealed in private debriefings with public officials.
