When Senior Australian of the Year Award finalist Dr Jan Hamill received a debt notice for over seven thousand dollars she was shocked and angry. Apparently she had been overpaid by Centrelink to that amount in the period of 2011-2012, even though she had declared all of her earnings for that year.

Dr Jan Hamill is one of many people who are suffering at the hands of the new data matching system that’s being employed at Centrelink. And with Twenty thousand debt notices being sent out every week and an estimated five thousand of those wrong, the issue is set to get bigger.
