As part of the 2012 federal budget, Canberra has announced that six million dollars will go towards suicide prevention strategies in the Kimberly region, where indigenous suicide rates are the highest in Australia.

But indigenous leaders are skeptical about how effective this funding will be,particularly in small aboriginal communities like Mowanjum,which has recently experienced a spike in suicides.Experts say long-term strategies specific to indigenous culture are the most effective.
