$45 million boost in mental health funding to go to community projects

In a win for mental health services… today the sector received a boost of more than 45 million dollars in funds for community-based mental health programs. The Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs wants the three-year grants to pay particular attention to the mental health needs of Indigenous communities and Australians from non-English speaking backgrounds. The Minister for Community Services, Northern Territory Senator Nigel Scullion, told The Wire that a locally-based approach is the best way to help the mentally ill and their families.
