The Rudd Government today announced a $41.5 million plan to address domestic violence. Minister for the Status of Women, Tanya Plibersek, says $12.5 million will be spent on a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week national telephone and online crisis service while $3 million will fund research. Despite this positive step, Dr Patricia Easteal says the amount of money being spent is a “pittance” and that more funding is needed to tackle such a big issue.
