280 a day: Australia’s chronic problem with diabetes

They say that across the board all Australians are facing incremental weight gains that put them at higher risk; no matter the total weight of individuals. The Wire’s Kayla Dickeson spoke to Greg Johnson, CEO of Diabetes Australia, asking him about what he hopes to achieve from their campaign.

This week is National Diabetes Week, and Diabetes Australia has launched a new campaign called 280 a day to raise awareness of the numbers of Australians developing diabetes. Experts say the leading cause is the massive change in diet and lifestyle over the past 20 years. Australians have been adding more sugar, fat and salt to their diets along with an increasingly sedentary work and home life.
