The Covid 19 toll in the aged care sector in Victoria is exposing disturbing inadequacies in levels of care and staff quality and training at some homes. Since the federal government allowed corporate interests into the sector it has grown into a huge industry which receives 20 billion dollars in government funding each year. Critics say this ‘corporatisation’ has led to a system which is not transparent or accountable and makes it difficult to direct spending in ways that could solve the current problems.
