$128m education boost – forcing tutors out of classrooms?

A bill passed this week in the Federal Parliament will give a much needed $128 million boost for indigenous education over the next four years. But the Northern Territory’s Federal Member for Lingiari, Warren Snowdon, claims the conditions on the funding will work to the detriment of education – saying that as a result, tutors could be taken out of remote school classrooms. Mr Snowdon says the system will penalise people who, through no fault of their own, cannot pass standardised but irrelevant tests.
