100 voices push for disability insurance scheme
Tomorrow State Premiers, Territory Chief Ministers and Disability Ministers will gather at COAG – the Council of Australian Governments. High on the agenda will be the NDIS – the National Disability Insurance Scheme proposed by the federal government last week. But WA Premier Colin Barnett is threatening to hold up the implementation of the scheme. He says the WA’s system of disability care is already the nation’s best. The disability sector has responded to his remarks by gathering a hundred stories from people with disabilities and their carers. Jo Russell has just one of those stories – both her children have autism, and she’s been caring for them for over 20 years.
