A national effort is underway to curb smoking rates among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It is estimated 50 per cent of Indigenous adults smoke, compared to 20 per cent of the rest of the population. The Government will spend $100 million as part of the COAG Closing the Gap agreement to spread the anti-smoking message.
