The drug resistant malaria currently terrorising parts of the Asia-Pacific would threaten hundreds of thousands of lives if it spread to africa, experts say. A malaria prevention conference addressing the issue ended in Sydney with Foreign affairs minister, Bob Carr, announcing 100 million dollars over the next four years for malaria relief in the Asia-Pacific.

Mr Carr was joined by the UN special envoy for Malaria, Ray Chambers, who was quick to thank the government for their support and called Australia a leader in the region when it came to Malaria prevention.
