The 19th of August marks World Orangutan day.

To celebrate, Adelaide Zoo released a single called  “Give me a Klue” by Kluet, the zoo’s Sumatran Orangutan. Kluet’s debut single can be downloaded from the zoo’s website, with proceeds going towards their orangutan program.

The Melbourne Zoo also held celebrations, showering their orangutans with gifts of their favourite fruits and vegetables.

But the celebrations highlight a more serious issue; the near extinction of wild Orangutan populations due to palm oil plantations.

Don’t Palm Us Off and The Orangutan Project are just two campaigns working to curb the extinction of wild orangutan populations.
