In the past twenty years, the proportion of women in parliaments across the world has nearly doubled. This change is all thanks to quotas.

However, Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott recently described the use of quotas as “anti-men”. This was in response to the Australian Human Rights Commission’s proposal that private companies bidding for government contracts include a clause promising a hiring target rate of forty percent women.
