Treaties and the future of the Stronger Futures legislation are issues that many Aboriginal people living in the Northern Territory are hoping newly elected Prime Minister Tony Abbott will approach in a humane and responsible manner, after he promised to be a “Prime Minister for Aboriginal affairs”.

Journalist and former foreign correspondent, Jeff McMullen, has spent years covering Indigenous rights issues in Australia and abroad. He isn’t holding his breath when it comes to Mr Abbott creating progressive Indigenous policy.
