Tony Abbott has made a surprise visit to Afghanistan to announce the official withdrawal of Australian troops. While many Australians are happy to see our soldiers coming home, some experts across the aid sector say they are concerned our foreign aid will leave when the troops do. With the announcement of aid budget cuts of $4.5 billion over the next 4 years, it is likely that Afghanistan will suffer the worst of these cuts.
