Cardiovascular illness has been the leading cause of death in China for at least two decades, but in recent years they have become more common, especially in rural provinces.

A recent Harvard study has found that there are links between a rise in cardiovascular disease  in Chinese people and consumption of western foods.

The study spanned 20 years, and followed a cohort of people, monitoring their diet and lifestyle.
