Science fiction movies have long used New York as an ‘end of civilisation’ backdrop for post-apocalyptic story lines. Now the city is actually looking like one of those scenes, with empty streets, and people fearfully staying indoors as the city’s Coronavirus death toll leads that of other US cities. Photographer James Hartley is one Australian who chose to return there and wait the crisis out.
