Temporary protection visas are back on the Liberals’ agenda again, this time with the support of the Palmer United Party. A new controversial visa – Safe Haven Enterprise visa – allows refugees to work in regional communities for up to five years. Critics fear this is only another reason to keep refugees in limbo on the Australian mainland. Asylum Seeker Resource Centre’s Pamela Curr also condemns a deal to send Nauru refugees to Cambodia – a nation that has a poor welfare system and human rights record.
