Israel and Palestine have a turbulent history. Both nations lay claim to The West Bank. However the West Bank is largely populated with Palestinians. And while the West Bank is under Israeli occupation, it has for the past 40 years, been illegal for Israel to have settlements on the West Bank.
This was recognised by the US for the past four decades, until now.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s latest statement could spell trouble for any chance of peace in the West Bank.
