The fight to re-legalise homosexuality in India

In 2009, the Delhi High Court overturned an 1860 British colonial law that had criminalised homosexuality for generations. India’s gay community celebrated their new found freedom. But the victory was short lived. The law was reinstated after a shock decision by the Supreme Court in 2013.

While local politicians grapple with how to address the issue, the gay community is fired up.  And it could be that they may have found an unlikely ally. Church leaders from over thirty denominations have joined the fight to combat HIV in India. This has started new dialogue between the church and the LGBT community.
