Tasmanian Devil populations have declined by as much as 80 per cent on the island due to a contagious, highly lethal facial tumour disease, but a new discovery has raised hope for their plight.

Researchers have discovered changes in Devil DNA from affected areas that show an evolving resistance to the disease.
