The State of Reconciliation report found that support for reconciliation is growing across Australia with 86 percent believing the relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other Australians is important. However, the report also found that incidences of racial prejudice are high with one in three Aboriginal persons experiencing verbal racial abuse in the six months before the survey. Moreover, only a quarter of Australians believe trust towards non-Indigenous Australians is high. The report, which comes a day before the yearly Close the Gap figures are released, says 64 percent of Australians agree cultural diversity makes us stronger.
