The federal parliament looks set to put a stop to the controversial super trawler that was preparing to fish in waters off Tasmania. After coming under growing pressure from a campaign against the trawler, the Labor Party will introduce legislation to parliament that will give the Environment Minister powers to stall fishing activities with an uncertain environmental impact.Critics of the super-trawler claim that it has overfished some waters in other parts of the world, and would kill protected marine life in Australian waters. But commercial fishing groups say that the changes represent a rejection of science-based management, and could undermine the entire industry.GetUp Environmental Campaign Director, Paul Oosting, joins us live on the line to discuss GetUp’s role in putting a stop to the super trawler.
