The Australian National University and the University of Sydney are the only Australian universities that have taken action on fossils fuels to date.

University students and their lecturers joined The National Day of Campus Divestment Action, urging universities to divest fossil fuel investments. The Day of Action was coordinated by 350.org Australia and organised by student groups in participating universities, who are part of an international movement for fossil free universities.
