The Alcohol Advertising Review Board argues in its new report that alcohol companies’ self-regulation cannot stop children from being influenced by alcohol promotion, so state and territory governments should act to ban alcohol ads from public transport and transit stops. The Board states that exposure to these advertisements adds to the normalisation of consuming alcohol and strengthens Australia’s destructive drinking culture. Their report also found that seventy-two per cent of Western Australian adults support removing alcohol ads from buses and bus stops. But is this likely to happen anytime soon?
