This week the 22nd International Grasslands Congress was held in Sydney. The world’s leading experts gathered to discuss how we can best use and protect this vital but under-discussed resource. Grasslands cover about 40 percent of the world’s land surface. Herding and farming goats, sheep and other livestock – makes up the livelihood of over one billion people and it’s mostly done on the world’s grasslands. As questions of food security, population and climate change become more urgent – thinking about how we use this land must become a priority.
