Australia is home to around 100,000 Romani Gypsies, but until now their history has been largely untold.

In her book, Australian Gypsies: Their Secret History, Mandy Sayer tells the history of Australian Gypsies as it dates back to their arrival on the First Fleet, with the likes of James Squire, the colony’s first brewer.

This interweaves with the stories of Gypsy families in Australia today.
