A Royal Commission has backed a nuclear waste storage facility in South Australia, urging the state to seize the opportunity as soon as possible. Premier Jay Weatherill announced the findings of the commission today, noting that community consent will be an integral part of the political judgement to be made at the end of the year. If it goes ahead, it is said the highly contested project will generate $100 billion in profit over 120 years. Anti-nuclear campaigners and the South Australian Greens say there are questions left unanswered about environmental and safety concerns.
