Only three months after leaving parliament, Trade Minister Andrew Robb has stepped into a senior advisory role with the Chinese firm that operates Darwin Port, two years after he negotiated a historic trade deal with Beijing.

But ministerial standards demand that former frontbenchers do not use privileged information for their own personal advantage.

Should Mr Robb be allowed to have the post-parliamentary career of his choosing or is there more at stake?
