Remembrance for Australia’s last hanged man Ronald Ryan

Fifty years ago today the last person ever executed by an Australian state was hung in Victoria amid a howl of protests.

Ronald Ryan was sentenced to death for the murder of jail guard George Hodson during a prison escape, although he maintained his innocence of the crime until the very end.
