Protests on Nauru on the eve of 6th Bali Process conference

If you are a Farsi-speaker or from eastern Afghanistan, it is Persian New Year, the biggest cultural event of the year. And if you are on Nauru, you won’t be allowed out to celebrate it. Tomorrow Foreign Minister Julie Bishop will be chair of the 6th Ministerial Conference of the Bali Process, where the regional countries will endeavour to find a solution to people smuggling, trafficking and transnational crime. Perhaps they could find nice a New Years present for those on Nauru.
