Opponents of the booming coal seam gas industry joined forces to voice their concerns over the weekend at a festival in the small Queensland town of Tara. The town is a scene of an ongoing campaign against attempts by Queensland Gas Company to build a 16km pipeline onto a residential estate. The pipeline will take coal seam gas from five wells on the estate to the nearby gas processing plant. The Lock the Gate campaign against CSG has held the “Rock the Gate” festival to highlight the damage industry is having on communities and their environment, and to demonstrate the resistance of the small town.
