A hot debate is running within the welfare sector about the merits of extending income quarantining to kids. Effective of July 1st the income management scheme will expand to include certain categories of young Australians. The changes apply to the Northern Territory and the other intervention areas: APY Lands, Playford in South Australia, the Ng Lands in Western Australia, Shepparton in Victoria, Bankstown in NSW, and Rockhampton and Logan in Queensland. Young Australians including under 16 year olds with Special Benefit, 16 to 18 year olds receiving Unreasonable to Live at Home payment and under 25s recently released from prison will automatically receive income management for 12 months.
